Delish...and not so Delish

I feel bad. It seems that all the recipes I've ever posted were evil...designed to sabotage well intended dieters...and myself. So last night I tried a recipe for easy wheat breadsticks that I will definately make again. Delish and done in under an hour. That's right. Put on a boiling pot of chili and make these while it simmers.
Delish Wheat Bread Sticks
2 1/2 cups warm water
6 Tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp salt
1/2 cup oil
6 cups whole wheat flour
6 Tbsp vital wheat gluten
5 tsp yeast

Step 1: Mix the water, yeast and brown sugar in the mixing bowl of a mixer with a dough hook. Let it sit for about ten minutes, or until the mixture is foamy.

Step 2: Add the remaining ingredients and let the machine knead the dough for 10 minutes. If the dough is too firm add a little water during the mixing process, If it's too soft, add a little flour.

Step 3: Divide the dough in half, then half four more times (You should have 32 pieces) and roll each piece into a stick about 9 to 10 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter. I found that using a sharp knife to cut the dough into pieces worked the best. Place these on 2 greased (I used parchment paper instead of grease and it worked well) sheets. It's okay if they're close together.

Step 4: Let rise about 20 minutes. (I only needed 15 minutes.)

Step 5: Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder and salt. Then bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 20 minutes.
I found that you need to be generous with the garlic powder and salt. You can use Garlic Salt or Italian seasoning as well. I was surprised at how easy these were to make. The dough is very easy to work with. I suggest spraying the counter with "Pam" or some other oil before rolling the breadsticks so that they don't stick, although the dough is not particularly sticky. They're really good for breakfast the next morning...;) Thanks to Andrea for the recipe.

Another Delish item....Chloe getting another academic letter. Not so Delish....

You may remember my beloved "London" sweatshirt...a souvenir from our trip last summer. This is what it looks like now.

Never mix an exploded bottle of Liquid Plummer and clean up duty with your beloved sweatshirt. Good thing the back of Kiera's car didn't bleach out like this.

Today I choose Delish over not so Delish.

Will try the recipe. I really feel for you on the sweatshirt problem..i had a similar situation with a navy blue sweatshirt i got in Hawaii and loved. Bleach splashed on it while i was doing laundry. It just means you need to go back and buy another one!
