Out of Commission

As you can see, I am out of touch for now.

Not much cell phone, internet coverage and when there is, a million (I promise, no lie) of us are sharing one laptop.

Long story short....you know you are at a family reunion when about 30 of you are piled in one tent trailer to stay warm and dry.

That's love.

Skirt the issue

The answer to my dilemma of wanting a clean uncluttered office....hiding everything behind my skirt!
Now my desk is dressed up and I can hide my business...if you know what I mean. Since I haven't fulfilled my "go to Ikea dream and buy cabinets for my office", I thought I'd just skirt the issue.
I still haven't put the room back together. Wall decor is still on the floor. Computer is still upstairs on the tv. I don't know what it is...I'll just keep skirting that issue for awhile too.

It means something

A few weeks ago, I heard this song on the radio and I knew it was good but it now is relevant in my life. I thought it was interesting that the video shows casinos and implies overcoming gambling and realizing what is truly important.

Listen to it and apply it to whatever your current struggle is and I'm sure you'll agree that we're lucky to have some decent music to listen to.

It's MY name...

or fewer people with my name in the U.S.A.

How many have your name?
I KNEW there weren't any other people out there with my name. How many people have yours?

Public Adoration

I would be remiss if I didn't document, publicly, my love and adoration for my Savior. He is in all things in my life. I have been a most ungrateful, undeserving child of His lately and He continues to provide miracles in my life.

I am a Mom. It is all I am. It defines me. It is what I was born to do. But I am learning that the choices my children make do not define me.

These are the days of enduring to the end. I once heard that enduring sounds so unachievable not only because of the implication that it could be long...but because it also implies that we will struggle...that it will be hard. Yes, it is.

I am going to hold fast to the anchor I dropped some time ago and know that this is where the Atonement applies in my life.

I love Him.

501's

Probably the biggest classic of all times....501 Levi Jeans. I've had more then my share of them in my lifetime. Bleached 501s, pegged 501s, pre-washed 501s, Shrink-to-fit 501s, men's 501s, cut-off 501s....love em.

I will always love 501.
This is my 501 post. Still loving to blog after almost 2 years. It has been a great outlet for me. I've been having my blog printed as I've gone along and will soon close the chapter on my 5th book. When I look back and read the books I'm a little chagrined at how naive I really am. I'm not the best writer nor speller but I hope someday these little books will be enjoyable to someone.
I've also made some and have reacquainted myself with some dear friends through blogging. I have been uplifted and buoyed through those relationships. I will cherish them always.
Here's to another 501 classic and many more.

The Last Hurrah

I just got the phone call from Grandma Gloria...they are in Lincoln, NE which is only a few hours away.

I'm so glad we took the opportunity to go out and ride the Rzrs last night. I've never seen anyone enjoy and squeal with as much delight over riding at the farm. They didn't even go very fast or far but it didn't matter...you couldn't wipe off their perma-grins...not even with icecream. You would have thought we were at Disneyland.

Noah, wasn't in it for the ride...he preferred exploring.

Good-bye RitterB's.

An inquiring mind would like to know...

..."Do cats and dogs get goosebumps too?"
Ammon
Can I google the answer to that one???

It's a Girl...

....the toothfairy...
She's a girl.
At least at the Kanenwisher house the toothfairy is a girl. Isaac wanted to know.He has lost 3 teeth this week! The toothfairy is getting old and slow at our house but still manages to get the quarters in as the sun rises. I think he's trying to see how many teeth he can pull out before his Mom and Dad come home. ;)

Welcome Zion

Jordie:
"Come home soon. I hope you have fun there. I'm having a fun time here. I can't wait to see Zion. Can't wait to be your new sister Zion. Love you."
Isaac:
"Dear Mom and Zion and Dad,
I love you so much. I miss you so much. And I'm havin' a fun time at the Kanenwishers. Benny came over and I thought Zion was so cute. I hope you have a good time with Zion and a safe trip home with Zion. Love, Isaac"
Ammon:
"I love you. I hope you come home soon. I love you Zion."
(what a big helper...he vaccuums up the dead daddy long legs for Aunt Cheryl :)

Noah:
"uh huh". (Which means; can't stop playing with the drum sticks, lost Aunt Cheryl's comb, got a fever that comes and goes, love DOG, love my binkie, love Gabba, don't love ibuprofen, want to squeeze Zion, miss you tons...oh, and PS, I can brush my teeth, but it kinda makes me slobber:)
I can't seem to get the song...Come to Zion out of my brain these days. Come home Zion!!

Oh, Say Can You See?

How can you read the words of our faithful Founding Fathers and not see how this great country was founded on principles of God? It's impossible to not see...

"The success, which has hitherto attended our united efforts, we owe to the gracious interposition of Heaven, and to that interposition let us gratefully ascribe the praise of victory, and the blessings of peace." George Washington

"We recognize no sovereign but God and no king but Jesus." John Hancock

"Go to the scriptures...the joyful promises it contains will be a balm to all your troubles. That book...is the rock on which our Republic rests." Andrew Jackson

"My concern is not whether God is on our side, my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right." Abraham Lincoln

I was struck by this verse today when we sang the hymn...America the Beautiful..
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

Oh, say...can you see...that our country is free and glorious and redeemed because of the providence of the Lord? Do you still think that our country is following the counsel set about by our Founding Fathers? I believe God will mend our every flaw until we confirm our souls in self-control and live the law...His law.

This is My Country...land that I love. I love the 4th of July and the opportunity it affords for us to be grateful. I'm grateful to those who continue to uphold and defend our rights and privileges.
On a lighter note...I also love this bald eagle....symbol of our country and pretty yummy too. God Bless America.

Summer, Summertime

Oh, what do you do in the summertime...when all the world is green....

This is the ultimate in summer fun....laying on the hot pavement to warm up after a cool refreshing swim...
...sharing Cheetos with your buddies...while wearing your awesome goggles...
sharing refreshment with the lifeguard...you really gotta know and love your lifeguard for them to share with you...run around with oreos all over your face but looking good sporting your nifty goggles! This is summertime at it's best! Is that what you do? So, do I.

Why is it?

Being at the pool yesterday and seeing the cutest chubby baby thighs got me thinking....why is it we think chubby legs are so cute on babies and not on adults? When does it change from being appealing and darling to not so charming? We ooh and ahh over the rolls and try to keep our self from wanting to goosh and smoosh the babies all the time. With grown ups...not so much.

I was just wondering.

Maybe I shouldn't waste or "waist" too much time thinking about it.

After all, it's true...

28 years old

In dog years, that is.

Lola Ebola is now 4 years old. Most dogs take 2 years to grow out of the puppy phase. Our wire fox terrier took 4.

Proof: We were out of town all day saturday and all day monday and came home both days to no messes in the house.

This is a big deal.
Even though our Lola was born 4 years ago, it would be another 4 months before we would rescue her from an abusive, neglectful breeder in Kansas. She was sickly and unhealthy when we brought her home and it's been an adventure ever since.

Now, if we could just keep her from bolting every time the door opens, she'd be perfect. Most people have baby proof houses. We have a Lola proof house. No uncovered garbage cans. No socks left on the floor. No left over food on the counter or table. No dirty clothes left where she can get to them. No doors left open. No saying the words, "wanna go for a walk?" without actually taking her for a walk. No watching Animal Planet without her.

I was thinking how grateful I am that I don't live in dog years. As depressing as it is to be turning 40...I think I'll be glad it's not 40 x 7.

I hope she's happy, I mean as happy as a dog gets. I see her smiling once in awhile. I swear I see her smiling. She is the first pet we've ever owned that has actually been a pet. She is the first thing we see when we wake up and she's the last thing we're thinking of as we go to bed and she snuggles in with us.

Happy 28th Birthday Lola Lola Ebola, the wire fox terror.
