In dog years, that is.
Lola Ebola is now 4 years old. Most dogs take 2 years to grow out of the puppy phase. Our wire fox terrier took 4.
Proof: We were out of town all day saturday and all day monday and came home both days to no messes in the house.
This is a
big deal.

Even though our Lola was born 4 years ago, it would be another 4 months before we would rescue her from an abusive, neglectful breeder in Kansas. She was sickly and unhealthy when we brought her home and it's been an adventure ever since.
Now, if we could just keep her from bolting every time the door opens, she'd be perfect. Most people have baby proof houses. We have a Lola proof house. No uncovered garbage cans. No socks left on the floor. No left over food on the counter or table. No dirty clothes left where she can get to them. No doors left open. No saying the words, "wanna go for a walk?" without actually taking her for a walk. No watching Animal Planet without her.
I was thinking how grateful I am that I don't live in dog years. As depressing as it is to be turning 40...I think I'll be glad it's not 40 x 7.
I hope she's happy, I mean as happy as a dog gets. I see her smiling once in awhile. I swear I see her smiling. She is the first pet we've ever owned that has actually been a pet. She is the first thing we see when we wake up and she's the last thing we're thinking of as we go to bed and she snuggles in with us.
Happy 28th Birthday Lola Lola Ebola, the wire fox terror.
